Teaching Series for September

Insomnia-03

Have you ever had one of those nights where there was 1000 different things rushing through your head? You wake up in the middle of the night and can’t go back to sleep because there’s a burden weighing on your heart, and it felt like all you could do was toss and turn? We live in a very busy, restless, overworked, overstressed culture. Research tells us almost 20% of the adult population in the US today suffers from some sort of clinical anxiety disorder, and that doesn't even include the pervasive day-to-day worrying that many of us experience. Many of us worry about things that we simply cannot shake loose, things that we simply cannot stop thinking about. Maybe it’s a problem at work…an unresolved relational conflict with a friend…a struggle with an addiction…a serious health issue…a personal crisis with a family member.Maybe you’re facing a stack of bills that keeps piling higher and higher or you are dealing with some debts where you feel like you keep sinking deeper and deeper. And because of these worries, your heart slips into this state of a perpetual tossing and turning, making for long sleepless nights and tiresome days. Psalm 127:2 NLT It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.  Only God has an answer to the restlessness that we feel. So, for the month of September, our goal is to move from stress to rest as we are in this series called Insomnia: What keeps you up at night? We are examining some of the primary catalysts for stress and anxiety and tension in our lives, and we want to see what Scripture has to say about them.

Teaching Series for August

Hungry Logo05 What’s your favorite food? If you’re like many Americans, you enjoy classic junk food like pepperoni pizza, burgers and fries. Maybe you’re more of a meat and potatoes person, who likes to eat pot roast and pork chops. Perhaps ethnic food is your thing: tacos and burritos, egg drop soup and shrimp fried rice. Some of us love anything as long as it’s cooked on the grill: brats, steaks, barbecued chicken. Or maybe you’re more of a breakfast person who enjoys eggs and pancakes and sausage. Perhaps the mere mention of all these foods makes your mouth water and your stomach growl and you’re thinking: “It doesn’t matter much to me. I just like to eat.”

The fact is, we Americans like to feed our faces, but what about our souls? Do you ever crave God’s truth? Or desire to read His words as much as you long for chocolate? During the month of August, we will learn to feast on Scripture as we learn to feed ourselves!

“The time is surely coming,” says the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine on the land—not a famine of bread or water but of hearing the words of the Lord. People will stagger everywhere from sea to sea, searching for the word of the Lord, running here and going there, but they will not find it. Beautiful girls and fine young men will grow faint and weary, thirsting for the Lord’s word.” Amos 8:11-13 NLT
