What’s your favorite food? If you’re like many Americans, you enjoy classic junk food like pepperoni pizza, burgers and fries. Maybe you’re more of a meat and potatoes person, who likes to eat pot roast and pork chops. Perhaps ethnic food is your thing: tacos and burritos, egg drop soup and shrimp fried rice. Some of us love anything as long as it’s cooked on the grill: brats, steaks, barbecued chicken. Or maybe you’re more of a breakfast person who enjoys eggs and pancakes and sausage. Perhaps the mere mention of all these foods makes your mouth water and your stomach growl and you’re thinking: “It doesn’t matter much to me. I just like to eat.”
The fact is, we Americans like to feed our faces, but what about our souls? Do you ever crave God’s truth? Or desire to read His words as much as you long for chocolate? During the month of August, we will learn to feast on Scripture as we learn to feed ourselves!
“The time is surely coming,” says the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine on the land—not a famine of bread or water but of hearing the words of the Lord. People will stagger everywhere from sea to sea, searching for the word of the Lord, running here and going there, but they will not find it. Beautiful girls and fine young men will grow faint and weary, thirsting for the Lord’s word.” Amos 8:11-13 NLT
