WHAT IS THE MEANING OF BAPTISM?
Baptism involves dipping a person completely under the surface of a body of water and then bringing them to a standing position again.
Baptism illustrates Christ’s death and resurrection.
Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and He was raised from the dead on the third day. Just as the Scriptures said. I Corinthians 15:3-4 NLT
Baptism illustrates my new life as a Christian
For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. Romans 6:4 NLT
Baptism identifies me with Christ and His followers.
It does not save you, (only your faith in God’s grace does that), but baptism does show others that you have put your faith in Christ.
God saived you by His grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. Ephesians 2:8-9 NLT
WHY SHOULD I BE BAPTIZED?
To follow Christ’s example.
One day Jesus cam from Nazareth in Galilee and John baptized Him in the Jordan River. Mark 1:9 NLT
To obey the Scriptures.
Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Acts 2:38 NLT
To show that I am a believer in Christ.
In the course of listening to Paul, a great many Corinthians believed and were baptized. Acts 18:8 Msg
WHO SHOULD BE BAPTIZED?
Baptism is for believers only! It’s a step of obedience for those who have individually made the personal commitment to Christ.
Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day - about 3,000 in all. Acts 2:41 NLT
But now the people believed Philip’s message of Good News concerning the Kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ. As a result, many men and women were baptized. Acts 8:12 NLT
